Here at Makeup Files we value the unique and interesting, so when we came across a shopping site full of goodies handpicked from overseas we decided to find out more…. We caught up with Monique and Marloes to learn more about their business……
Tell us about your business Handpicked Online and how did you get started?
We are Monique and Marloes, two Dutch girls who moved to Australia two years ago and met in Sydney. We both had the ambition to start an online business and thought it would be nice to set up something together.
As we both love it when a product has a good story behind it, we were very keen to work with brands that tell a story. So that’s how the idea for Handpicked Online was born: an online store in unique bags, jewellery and accessories with a beautiful story. All our products are handpicked from overseas and new to the Australian market. We only work with quality brands that are popular in their countries of origin.
Who should be buying your products and why?
Our brands are for the self conscious sophisticated woman who has her own style and genuinely appreciates unique not-everyday pieces with a story behind it. She is a style influencer with a global mind and is self aware.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
We love being our own boss! And of course working with beautiful brands, it’s like working in a candy shop.
What do you find the most challenging?
As a relatively small business, you are not always on the top of the priority list with other companies.
What style advice would you give to women?
A must have in every woman’s wardrobe is a couple of timeless design pieces – the ones that will last for years and years e.g. a little black dress or a good pair of jeans.
What can we expect from Handpicked Online in the future?
More beautiful brands with great stories behind them! At this moment we are importing a gorgeous jewellery brand with a beautiful rose gold collection, the newest trend in Europe.
What is your best selling product right now?
Our MY PAPER BAG line, the leather designer version of the famous brown paper shopping bag.
