One of the most exciting trends to hit the catwalks this season is the sensual style of Gothic Romance. With black lace, leather skirts and gothic dresses frequenting the runways, designers such as Givenchy, Wang and Versace have a go at creating a romantic twist on the sultry look of past gothic trends.

Influenced by the nation’s ongoing fascination with all things supernatural (think Edward Cullen and the stars of True Blood), you can achieve this sexy look by experimenting with delicate fabrics, such as silk, lace and chiffon. Try this Revoke Tank by WISH, made from the finest pure silk chiffon and velvet: teamed with black leather pants and sky-scraper heels makes for a fierce Gothic Romance edge!

Whether you opt for full on black lace or test the trend with something a bit more subtle such as gothic pieces in dark red or plum, done well, this trend screams sex appeal, despite the shades of darkness.

Gothic Romance - Women's Fashion

Perhaps a trend not for the faint hearted, nailing the Gothic Romance trend means standing out from the crowd. This will certainly be the case wearing the Total Recall Mini Dress by Evil Twin. With its fitted bodycon style and woven fringes, this leather number is sure to turn heads on a night out. Likewise, this black Lola Vs Harper Lace Dress with its scoop neckline, unbalanced hem and trailing back, is a perfect show stopping LBD with a gothic spin.

It may be clear that an important factor in rocking this style is the need to be fearless; don’t be afraid to experiment, for example, with a few spikes or studs. Work the trend with this Stud It Bracelet by First Sin or this Black studded handbag from the Bellucci Collection; both great gothic accessories with a feminine edge.

So if you’re looking to make a fashion statement this season, forget all creepy comparisons with Marilyn Manson and dig out the history books to head back in time in true Gothic Romance style!
