Summer Beauty Trend: Colour Popping with Bright Lips

Colour Popping Bright Lips

Two of my favourite beauty trends of spring/summer 2013 are orange lipstick and colour popping, and with summer just around the corner is there a better time to start trialling these hot, new beauty trends?

What I love most about colour popping is it’s a simple yet classic look from the old beauty rule book.  Keep your make-up to a minimum and add a daring pop of colour to the lip or eyes – not both! It’s an easy make-up look that works from day to night, will compliment a summer dress or add a touch of class to a casual jean and tee combo. Bold and bright lips are an instant beauty statement, and that little pop of colour will boost you complexion and add a youthful, fun vibrancy to an everyday look.

So here is the low down on my shade of choice, orange. The colour is fabulous and suits all skin tones from Kourtney Kardashian and Samantha Harris to Zooey Deschanel and Emma Stone. If you have tanned skin an orange lip is going to compliment your skin tone (think bronzed goddess like Jennifer Lopez), if you have a paler complexion it is going to enhance your lips and brighten you features (think Scarlett Johansson).

Not only do orange lips suit just about every one, there is a huge variety of orange hues for you to try until you find your perfect match. To narrow your search just a little reminder that you skin tone is key. Dark skinned women should go for lighter shades like peach, sherbet, melon and coral, while brighter shades like neon orange, tangerine and orange-red will suit those with paler complexions. Darker shades like terracotta, rust and burnt orange will look fabulous on women with a naturally tanned complexion. Don’t forget when searching for your perfect shade – the lighter the skin, the brighter the lip!

One of my favourite shades comes from Aussie make-up king, Napoleon Perdis. He has a beautiful, bold shade of orange in (1) Hara from his Devine Goddess Lipstick range $29.76 (which are an exceptionally nourishing range of lipsticks) while (2) Clarins Joli Rouge in Orange Fizz $37.80 is a striking and vibrant shade of neon orange and fantastic for the colour popping trend.

If you are worried about ‘popping’ too much, try a gloss to begin with. I like (3) Becca Ultimate Colour Gloss in Malibu Punch $33.59 or (4) Jane Iredale Puregloss in Apricot Fizz $34.00 both available online at ry.com.au. If you want to be a little more daring or would like a bold lip with a high gloss finish, apply a lip crayon or pencil first, I like (5) Glo Minerals Royal Lip Crayon in Countess Coral $28.00.
