Runway to red carpet, Cuffs have been making a serious statement this year, claiming their rightful place on our lust lists for the season ahead!Whether you go for wrist, ear or even hand cuffs (no, not the breaking-the-law type), show-stopping crystal or sleek and minimal, gold or silver, pop or pretty, these standout styles have the power to transform all on their own.
Now’s the time to start working this off the cuff key trend into your Spring wardrobe…
The wrist cuff
From Chanel’s beautiful giant pearls and Celine’s pop-art masterpieces, to powerful warrior-style hardware at Alexander McQueen, we’ve seen wrists in the limelight during many of the Spring Summer 14 ready-to-wear shows.
Mother of Pearl!!!
No longer the demure pearls that your grandma wears to match her impeccable tailored suit, designers like Chanel have given the pearl hero status – establishing it as one of the biggest trends (quite literally) for Spring Summer.
Style tip: Balance a chunky transeasonal knit with an oversized pearl cuff as seen on fashion blogger Lisa Hamilton from See Want Shop.
Take a gold leaf out of Balmain’s book with a sleek yet statement gold cuff. For summer’s relaxed tailoring, cool sporty lines and monochrome palette this style will lift the game – adding just the right amounts of resort luxe and pared back city slick.
Far from Spring’s candy pastels, demure midi skirts and clean sporty tailoring, this powerful wrist armour is not for the faint hearted. TomTom Pyramid Access cuff $350.
Join the tribe – follow AlexanderMcQueen & Celine and relish in the opulent mix of this season’s excessive prints and aggressive arm wear.
The ear cuff
Undoubtedly it’s the ear cuff that’s been gathering serious momentum, adorning the ears of fashion’s style setters and celebs alike, this blast from the 90s past has been given a feminine, luxe makeover and has secured its place as the season’s must-have accessory.
It’s refreshing to see an evolution in style taking place too, with designers exploring more refined and delicate options for those not bold enough to wear an ear full of crystal, we love this elegant style worn by Emma Watson.
Girl with the Pearl earring
Yes, it’s really all about pearls this summer. Stunning girl-of-the moment, Rita Ora, has been snapped on multiple occasions wearing a statement pearl cuff that adds the right touch of rockstar to red carpet .
Off the Cuff – Earcuffs on right – Top left: Amber Sceats ‘Star’ earcuff $89 Bottom left: Ryan Storer AB Silver crystal earcuff $570 Middle: TomTom ‘Celestial Geometry’ earcuff $235 Right: Singular ‘Kashta’ earcuff $99
With as much sparkle as a turn of the century chandelier, combined with 90s edgy elegance, Australian designers Amber Sceats and Ryan Storer have been leading the charge when it comes to these jewel encrusted beauties. Worn by countless celebrities, bloggers and style icons this style is perfect to rock-up Spring’s pretty florals, add a shine to a casual denim ensemble or steal the show when paired with a floor-length evening gown.
Sleek and MINImal
Mini ear cuff
Not one for an earful of bling? Don’t underestimate the street cred of the mini ear cuff. Take Aussie label Ford + Harris – this label gets serious Instagram airtime with bloggers like Margaret Zhang and Fabliha Reza styling up their sleek hardward.
Wear them as a delicate accessory with a dose of manstyle – think Charlotte Gainsbourg for Current/Elliot.
Raising the bar
We can’t sign off without mentioning this elegant and beautifully considered piece by Amber Sceats (below) – ear bars will be coming through strongly for summer and this one proves that less sometimes really is more. LOVE.
The next big thing!
From midi rings to palm cuffs (yes let’s stay away from the law-breaking innuendo of hand cuffs) it’s always fun to see what body part is the next focus of designer love. Style setter SJP set the wheels in motion when she added an edge to her oh-so-pretty Prabal Gurung & Olivier Theysken’s gown with a palm cuff by Fallon at the NYC Ballet Fall Gala. Since then this surprisingly cool and comfy new accessory (it fits perfectly in the palm of your hand) has taken hold. It’s been spotted on everyone from Jennifer Lawrence to our own blogger superstar Zanita.
The jury is out on whether the palm cuff should be worn stacked with rings and bangles or as a statement all on its own. We say while there are no rules, make this style all your own.
