HOW TO GET LUSCIOUS WINTER HAIR – 3 EASY LOOKS
Do you want to maintain gorgeous healthy-looking hair all year round? At our hair salon in Brisbane we see a lot of clients who are suffering from the winter hair blues with dullness, dryness and breakage. So we’ve put together three hair commandments for maintaining silky tresses and three fuss-free hairstyles, perfect for the cooler months!
Commandment 1: Thou shall not over-wash
Try to avoid over-washing your hair and wash every other day. Because there’s less moisture in the air, hair can easily become dry and dull and produce oil quicker to compensate.
Why not try a little dry shampoo in between washes? We love Eleven Australia’s Give Me Clean Hair Dry Shampoo (available from ARC) – it’s great for freshening up day-old hair.
Commandment 2: Thou shall not fry one’s hair
We know those hot showers are tempting, but heat is not your hair’s friend. Try and keep the water temperature lukewarm, as scalding water will strip the moisture from your hair, leaving it weak and prone to breakage. If you’re brave enough, try a quick blast of cold water to smooth the hair cuticles and boost shine.
Also, try to give your hair a break from your heat styling tools. Let your hair dry naturally once in a while and try hairstyles that don’t require heat styling (Hint, have you seen the loose braid?)
Commandment 3: Thou shall apply a weekly treatment
Keep your hair nourished and radiant with a weekly leave-in treatment. Our go-to at the moment is the Eleven Australia Miracle Hair Treatment. Seriously, this baby works miracles! Coconut or argan oil work nicely too.
Now that you’ve prepped your hair with some extra TLC, it’s time for some easy, on-trend looks for winter.
The Loose Braid
There’s no denying the braid is having its moment right now. This versatile look is great for the daytime and easily glammed up for the evening with a bold lip and statement jewelry. As the ends of the hair are on display, we want them looking as glossy and as healthy as possible. To add shine, run some of your favourite hair oil through the ends.
Kevin Murphy’s Young Again Infused Treatment Oil is a winner at ARC. Add volume to the top of the hair by using hair powder or some dry shampoo. You can make the braid as loose or as tight as you like, depending on the desired look. Lastly pull out a few loose strands to frame the face and finish with hairspray.
The Low Bun
This classic and simple style is the perfect hair for any occasion and great for when you’d rather stay in bed a little longer! To recreate this style, make a loose ponytail at the nape of the neck, then begin twisting the hair and wrap around in a doughnut- like shape. Secure with another band or bobby pins. You can make it interesting with a bit of texture in the top or even add a small braid starting from the fringe. It’s ideal for winter because you can get away with no heat styling!
The side part with side-swept curls
Say goodbye to middle parts and hello to side parts! We love how this style looks so glamorous with minimal effort. Start by dividing your hair into three sections and creating soft waves or barrel curls, whatever your prefer, from the mid-lengths down. If you have naturally wavy or curly hair then lucky you! If not, remember to use a heat protectant.
After you’ve curled the ends, start combing over to create that deep side part. Take a comb or brush and smooth the other side behind your ear. It’s a good idea to use a hair gel or wax to smooth it down. And bobby pins! Lastly pull the curls to one side and finish with a generous dose of hairspray.
And there you have it! Three easy steps to healthy, radiant hair this winter and three gorgeous styles to show it off with! And if winter already has you reaching for that hat, don’t fret! Come in and enjoy a nourishing hair treatment with a glass of wine from our wine bar!
